I don't intend to publish projects which are to be built yet,
but I will make one exception.
This is a new building of National Library in Prague designed by Jan Kaplicky. The reason
why I publish it here is that there is a huge discussion about this building ranging from
total fascination to total disgust.
Even the Czech president Václav Klaus said today that he will "block with his body"
building this. The mostly repeated concern is that it is ruthless
and too close to the Prague Castle (see below photo).
The project was chosen in anonymous competition
(see some details and pics of other projects here) by a jury lead by Zaha Hadid.
I am very interested in opinions of non-Czechs on this building! Please do leave at least a short comment.

I am not totally repelled by the look... ;-) Actually, the building itself looks even interesting - but: is it going to be in this ugly color combination? Ok, it might be part of the overall design but I think it's too extreme considering it's location.
In the first instance when I opened the tab with your site loaded I was irritated as I thought I had some error and was on a completely wrong site. The pop colors reminded me of a children site, 'cause the building on the first picture somehow resembles something like BBC's teletubbies' home... ;-)
So, the design of the building is ok in principal but I wouldn't agree to build it in this prime location.

just been looking for future systems stuff, came accross this. stunning design. would need to see better landscape design for the address but built form is really impressive. love the juxapsition between the adjacent perimiter blocks and the amoebic form of the libary
would be great to see the castle and this in the same short walk!
my advice would be to open the atrium out into the landscape, using the notion of a public carpet that extends reading areas etc into a soft/hardsacape moscaic to incorporate accessible public space due to its important location and programme.
